Sustainability
Crafted in a way that fills us with pride. Discover how we take the lead in sustainability.
Made to measure means and end to overproduction
Our zero-waste approach creates garments better suited to you and our environment. No stock, no waste of resources, no useless item that will end up in landfill. Each piece manufactured in our workshop is made to be worn. This fact, combined with responsible sourcing and ethical production methods, contributes to environmental sustainability and social welfare, making the fashion industry a little bit better, one step at a time. Even so, returned items are always recycled or donated.

High quality means more wear
Today’s market is flooded with cheap, trendy “fast fashion” clothes. It's been reported that 50% of all fast-fashion products get disposed of in under a year, often after just a few wears.
By contrast, we only want to make high-quality clothing. Our products are designed to last hundreds of wears, staying in your life and out of the landfill. Our goal is that you’ll still enjoy your favourite Saint Daniel's clothes custom-made for you a decade from now.

Recycling Returned Garments
While most of our products are custom-made or ordered, we still accept returns and provide complimentary remakes to help customers find their ideal custom size or style preferences. As a result, we see our fair share of returned garments.
We donate some of these returns to charities, but many are not a good fit for donation. So we work with green trees and fab scrap to recycle the garments into building insulation and other valuable materials. Unlike paper and plastics for the general public, recycling clothing is not free, so we pay to ensure our clothes don’t end up in landfills. In 2022, we recycled 1330 pounds of returned clothing.

Packaging
Premium Packaging reflects the quality of the product, enhances the unboxing experience, and at a minimum, protects the garments in transit. Unfortunately, premium packaging often ends up being excessive, and along these lines, many of the materials we used early on were not optimal. Over time, we’ve improved our packaging sizes, configurations, and materials, reducing plastic and other unsustainable materials. All our packaging, including the white box, kraft paper, thank you card and care cards, are made from recycled paper and printed using soy ink.
Our iterative approach continually reevaluates available materials and science around recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable materials.

Lining
All our Suit Jackets and Pants are lined with Bemberg Cupro fibre lining from the inside for better breathability and a luxurious feel. Cotton linter, the raw material of Bemberg™, is naturally derived from the manufacturing process of cottonseed oil; Bemberg™ is biodegradable and compostable fibre. The cotton linter is refined and dissolved to produce pure regenerated fibre using their proprietary technology.

Zipper
All our Pants, Bomber Jackets, and Hoodies are equipped with YKK’s bluesign® zipper made from the yarn used in the tape of NATULON® mechanically recycled and made from more than 99% post-consumer recycled material, mostly plastic bottles. Bluesign® approved products to ensure less harmful substances or processes are used in production. Every chemical and process is reviewed and evaluated by bluesign® to ensure that they meet one of the highest standards for safety and environmental impact.

Environmentally friendly Fabrics
We produce garments in a wide range of fabrics and are proud to offer a selection of sustainable options.
Recycled Cotton Chambrays – Luxurious Italian chambrays made from 55% recycled cotton collected from Canclini’s production line in Italy. The scraps are re-spun into yarns using energy from the mill’s photovoltaic power system and almost no water. The recycled yarns are blended with virgin cotton for added longevity and wear to ensure strength and performance.

Hemp Blends – Hemp is grown without pesticides, helps restore soil, takes CO2 out of the atmosphere, and requires 50% less water than cotton to grow. Hemp is similar to linen in its breathability and cooling, moisture-wicking properties, but it’s 8× stronger, allowing your shirt to last even longer.

Recycled Performance Blends – Woven from recycled nylon and recycled polyester, these shirts are some of our lowest-impact fabrics. They look like classic dress shirts with remarkable performance, stretch, and resilience.

Q-certified Merino Wool – We weave our Italian Merino wool shirting fabrics with ZQ-certified New Zealand Merino, which ensures the highest standards of animal welfare and a completely traceable sustainable supply chain. Additionally, wool’s naturally anti-bacterial, odour-resistant properties allow for less frequent washing than cotton, potentially saving water during the garment’s life.
